What Is A Doula?
A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to their clients before, during and shortly after childbirth to help them achieve the healthiest, most satisfying birth possible.
My role as a doula is to support a minimal to zero pain labor, providing techniques, exercises and education that will prepare your body and your baby for a smooth and gentle delivery. I specialize in supporting natural, unmedicated births, but have experience in all areas of medical intervention.
Before your labor I will meet with you prenatally to help you create a birth plan, teach you comfort techniques and exercises and provide coaching to prepare your body, your partner/family and your baby for labor.
During labor I will stay with you continuously, offering support to speed up labor, get baby into an optimal position and reduce pain. Using hydrotherapy, deep relaxation hypnotherapy, acupressure, massage therapy, aromatherapy, hot/cold therapy, breathing techniques, position changes and more, I will support you and your partner/family through a grounded and empowering birth journey.
Following the delivery of your baby, I can be with you through the golden hour, from skin-to-skin bonding and breast-feeding to baby’s first vaccines and any postpartum procedures you may need. I also offer infant and family photography/videography during this time.
Additionally, my job is to be an advocate for you and your family, helping make sure you are informed and in control of all the decisions regarding your body and your baby. I will support whatever medical decisions you make, 100%.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
I am a certified birth doula through DONA International, the top ranking doula training program in the world. I am also certified through, and an employee of the Denver Health Doula program.
-
A midwife is a health care provider, while a doula is a non-medical childbirth professional. You might choose to have a midwife instead of an OB for prenatal care and to deliver your baby—midwives can deliver babies in hospitals, birthing centers or even in your home. A doula, on the other hand, doesn’t replace your healthcare practitioner but rather can add extra services, such as helping you with techniques to manage pain during labor and even providing support and help during baby’s early days.
-
In many hospitals in Colorado, doulas are allowed in the operating room for a cesarean (C-section) with regional anesthesia, in addition to one support person such as a spouse or partner. During prenatal visits we will discuss this (even if you are planning to deliver at home).
-
Yes! I have supported many women through successful VBACs. Using techniques to get baby into the ideal position, making sure labor is progressing and helping you relax your body, I can help you achieve a smooth vaginal delivery.

Although I plan my schedule strategically to make sure I am at every birth, I will also always have 2-3 professional and trusted backups in the case that I cannot attend. Meeting my backups beforehand is an option!
In the case that your labor is longer than 12 hours and my schedule does not permit me to stay, I will call my backup and return to you as soon as I can to stay for the remainder of your labor.
